Monthly Parent Email Letter
February is already here, which means it will not be long before winter sports and activities are wrapping up, leaving spring sports just around the corner. As always, there are many events going on during the month that we want to make sure you are aware of.
IRISH ADVENTURES
On Tuesday, February 11, the high school will be undertaking our first ever Irish Adventures Day. Students who have met expectations with academics, attendance, and behavior have been provided the opportunity to participate in field trips outside of school. These trips include a behind the scenes tour of Target Field, Snow Tubing at Wild Mountain, a movie or bowling at the Monticello Theater and River City Extreme, or ice fishing on Lake John. In addition to these out of school options, in-school options include, physical education activities, board games, a movie, along with other options. While this is a day of fun, it is still considered a day of school and attendance is expected. Planning for a second Irish Adventures day in May is already underway. Students can miss no more than 10 school days during semester, be passing all classes, not had major discipline referrals, and be a student in good standing in order to participate (all detentions served). Adventure destinations for May will be released in the next few months.

Recommendations for Prom Attire
These are the recommendations for Prom Attire at Maple Lake. It is the responsibility of male participants to let any non-Maple Lake guests aware of the guidelines.
1. Dresses with excessive cleavage should be avoided. A good way to check is to place the thumb and index finger of one hand on your collarbone. Any skin showing beneath is too much exposure. When trying on dresses, bend over while wearing it to see if you are comfortable with how the top fits when it comes to the cleavage.
2. Avoid dresses with large cutouts. Midriffs should not expose more than three inches of flesh. The dress should not look like a bikini top attached to a skirt!
3. Dresses may be backless as long as they are not cut below the natural waist (about where the navel is located).
4. If choosing a short dress, the skirt must cover more thigh than what is exposed. Also, if your dress has a slit, it must also follow the same rule (should not exceed mid-thigh).
5. When trying on dresses, move around in them, bend over, and sit down. Will you be comfortable wearing this dress for a long period of time (8-10 hours)? Will you be able to sit comfortably in a chair during dinner? Will you be able to get in and out a vehicle?
6. During the dance, it is permissible to change into something more comfortable however, boys must be wearing at least a t-shirt and shorts or pants. Shoes need to be worn at all times during the dance. Bring comfortable shoes to change into if necessary.
If unsure whether your dress meets the guidelines, see Mrs. Voigt or Mrs. Klabunde. Have a picture of the dress ready of you wearing it. We will be honest if it is a good choice or not.
