Computer Applications

This is a High School level class in which students gain a basic understanding of computer terminology and hardware, which will enable them to be informed consumers.  Students will then spend time learning and applying software programs that are utilized in both post-secondary schools and the “working world”.  Students will do this while working primarily on the “PC” platform.

Computer Science Discoveries

Computer Applications is a prerequisite for this course.  Computer Science Discoveries introduces students to computer science as a vehicle for problem solving, communication and personal expression.  As a whole, the semester focuses on the visible aspects of computing and computer science and encourages students to see where computer science exists around them and how they can engage with it as a tool for exploration and expression.  The course covers topics such as programming, physical computing, HTML/CSS, and data.  Students engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun.  The course inspires students as they build their own websites, apps, and games.

Computer Science Principles

Computer Science Principles introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. More than a traditional introduction to programming, it is a rigorous, engaging, and approachable course that explores many of the foundational ideas of computing so all students understand how these concepts are transforming the world we live in.  Units covered include:  The Internet, Digital Information, Algorithms and Programming, Big Data and Privacy, Building Apps.
